Singapore has their Sling, Moscow their Mule, and Manhattan their… well Manhattan. But if Jakarta were a cocktail, what would it be?
In conjunction with Jakarta’s birthday on June 22, we asked some of the city’s most passionate (and zany) bartenders to come up with a special cocktail creation, inspired by the big Durian itself.
Mixologist - Kiki Moka
Cocktail - “Bir Pletok with a twist” - Vodka, Cointreau, Lime Juice, Ginger Beer, head of beer
The most famous of traditional Betawi drinks is perhaps Bir Pletok, a warm drink of ginger, pandan, lemongrass, spices and hot water, commonly found in traditional markets around Jakarta. “The first alcoholic version of Bir Pletok was made in the ‘60s for none other than President Soekarno and his delegates at Hotel Indonesia,” (now Hotel Kempinski Indonesia) explains the familiar face of Kiki Moka, the Union Group’s head mixologist. Kiki knows this because four years ago, he actually met the bartender responsible, Haji Mamik. “I’ve added twist to Haji’s recipe by including ginger beer and ice,” says Kiki. The result is a refreshing, more-ish concoction, not dissimilar to a Moscow Mule. We highly recommend it!
Price - IDR 95,000 (available on request).
